“Life is a Highway”
From “The Voyage of the Blue Bug”
“We had just started to cross the Mojave Desert when the car started to sputter and jerk…when I looked at the engine, gas was leaking out of the carburetor…”
“On our way across Arizona toward the Grand Canyon, we passed through several national forests which were cool and green and tranquil in comparison to the miles of hot, barren desert…”
“Even though we’re a little homesick now after 7 weeks, we still both are completely sold on camping – and if the camper holds up, we intend to keep it when we get back…”
Imagine my delight reading this cloth-covered journal from 1970 while transforming it into a hardbound Charm Home Book! From one page to the next, details chronicle the newlyweds’ cross-country trip in a Volkswagen bus – at a time when a full day’s expenses, including gas and lodging, was $13.40.
Using a sophisticated Czur scanner, I was able to preserve the integrity of the original’s brittle binding to capture and digitize handwritten pages – and upload them to a bookmaking platform.
